THE ANDHERI FLYOVER PROJECT

The Andheri Flyover Project aims at creating a ‘new highway’ for people and cars without altering the area of the road currently in use.

The 3 junctions at Andheri on the Western Express Highway have a 1.2 km long 8 lane flyover built over them in 2002. The column and beam structure of the Flyover renders the space below it unusable. The Andheri Flyover Project frees up this unutilised 6.5 acres in the form of tree lined promenades on either side of the central road with 4 lane underpasses created beneath each promenade - completely transforming the highway.

Intersection widths would now be reduced to manageable 30m from the current 60m, and there would be complete visibility established across the road due to the removal of the ugly flyover.

Further, the external lanes at grade could be dedicated as bus lanes and the bus stops would be inset within the promenade to ensure free flow of traffic.

Solar power & rain water harvesting could be incorporated in the project making it very sustainable.

The promenades provide surrounding communities with a space where people can safely walk, bicycle, take transit and socialize.
