THE CARTER ROAD CYCLING PROJECT

Carter Road is 1.2km long scenic road along the Arabian Sea popular with tourists and residents.

The Carter Road Cycling Project proposal aims to bring 2.78 acres into the public domain including 2.4kms of dedicated cycling tracks, a wider and better sea side promenade & an even and usable footpath on the residential side.

Carter Road, a non-arterial road which is relatively traffic free is a 6 lane road with a varying width of 19.2m to 26m. 4 lane roads on either ends converge with Carter road. Equalising the lane widths to 3.1m from the present varying lane width and making it a 4 lane road ensures consistent lane width, seamless connectivity and prevents speeding motorists.

The realignment of Carter Road along the residential buildings ensures an even 2m footpath.

Within the extra space created, 2.4 kms stretch of 2.5m wide cycle tracks on either side of Carter Road have been proposed encouraging a healthier lifestyle & a transportation model that could be adopted in other parts of the city.

In addition to the cycle tracks, the proposal frees up large amounts of additional space on the sea side. This makes for a better and wider promenade all through the 1.2 kms stretch. In all, the proposal aims to add about 2.78 acres to the public domain.

A wider Carter Road promenade and cycle tracks together create a great public space not only for the residents but also for the city.
