Bombay Greenway

About

Bombay Greenway is a not-for-profit urban design and research initiative founded by Abraham John Architects. Set up to look at architecture and the city from a civic point of view, it works independently of the commercial practice: a public-interest workshop for ideas and projects that improve how Mumbai lives.

Our story

It began in 2012 with the Bombay Greenway Project, a plan for 1,000 acres of public space along Mumbai's railway lines, which won the international urban design competition at Velo-city 2013 in Austria.

For over a decade since, Bombay Greenway has moved from large masterplans to tangible, local work: junctions, public gardens and station areas, several of them now built. The approach is simple. Find the public space the city already owns, correct its geometry, connect it into networks, and measure the result. The mission is unchanged: a better city through design.
