Khar Subway, not an elevated road

The BMC plans a ₹2,400 crore elevated road for private cars. Widening the existing Khar subway and building the missing DP roads does more, for far less.

Only three east–west crossings join Bandra, Khar and Santacruz across the railway, so traffic piles up at each. The proposed Khar–Santacruz Elevated Road would concentrate it further, cut trees, darken the streets below and land just short of the Vakola signal it is meant to bypass.

Our alternative widens the Khar subway, which is a road at grade rather than a true subway, fixes its flooding by draining the railway above into storm drains, and completes the connectors already in the Development Plan. Traffic is spread across several routes, the neighbourhood keeps its light and trees, and pedestrians and cyclists keep their crossing.
