Patwardhan Park: keep the park, lose the car park

The BMC tendered a 228-car park under a public park, at about ₹1.2 crore of public money per private parking space.

Patwardhan Park is one of the few green spaces on Linking Road. The proposal to dig it up for 228 cars would cost about ₹75 crore and put a public park at the service of private vehicles.

Our study counted the parking that already exists within 100 m and 250 m: mall basements and BMC lots that are underused. The alternative is to use that capacity, keep the park whole and open it to the street, as the Linking Road Park projects propose.
