500 Acres, East to West

500 acres of continuous open space across the island city, from the Coastal Road in the south-west to the docks in the south-east, with the Mahalaxmi Racecourse at its heart.

Mumbai's open spaces are large but cut off from one another. This plan joins them into one continuous public landscape that people can walk and cycle across the city, east to west.

Smaller projects such as Saat Rasta and the Haji Ali – Mahalaxmi underpass are pieces of this whole: each can be built on its own, and each is designed to fit the larger picture without duplication.
