Carter Road Cycling

2.4 km of cycle tracks and a wider promenade on one of Mumbai's best-loved seafronts.

Carter Road runs 1.2 km along the Arabian Sea. It is a six-lane road of uneven width, 19.2 m to 26 m, fed by four-lane roads at both ends.

Evening out the lanes to 3.1 m and making it four lanes keeps traffic flowing and discourages speeding. Realigning the road gives an even 2 m footpath on the residential side, 2.5 m cycle tracks on both sides for 2.4 km, and a much wider promenade by the sea.

In all, about 2.78 acres return to the public, for the neighbourhood and the whole city.
