The New Shivaji Park
An underpass on the western edge lets the beach become the fourth side of the island city's largest park.
Shivaji Park in Dadar is enclosed by streets on all four sides. Its edge, a low continuous kerb known as the katta, is a favourite seat for young and old.
Between the park and Dadar beach sit civic buildings behind compound walls. Taking the western road underground opens these sites and gives uninterrupted access from the greens of the park to the openness of the sea, creating one much larger public space.
